Satoshi Miyagi Interview
The “with corona” perspective
Due to the effects of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Japan’s public halls and theaters began to cancel their programs one after another from the end of February 2020. Among these, the Shizuoka Performing Arts Center (SPAC) lead by General Artistic Director Satoshi Miyagi, had to cancel its annual Fuji no Kuni ⇄ World Theatre Festival Shizuoka (planned for April 24 – May 6, 2020), and instead quickly improvised to hold an online event titled Kumo no Ue ⇅ World Theatre Festival On the Cloud 2020. Then, as a coronavirus pandemic countermeasure a series of programs were held under the title “SPAC Online Theater” beginning June 2020. While dealing in these ways with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the latest plans now call for the 2021 World Theatre Festival that will feature a triple bill of three outdoor theatre productions. In this interview held in two sessions in June 2020 and March 2021, we speak with SPAC’s Satoshi Miyagi, about dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.
